Recalls & faults: Toyota T250 Avensis Verso (2001-10) https://www.australiancar.reviews/recalls-faults-toyota-t250-avensis-verso-2001-10/ Sun, 27 Dec 2020 23:26:32 +0000 http://prod.australiancar.reviews/recalls-faults-toyota-t250-avensis-verso-2001-10/

Recalls: Toyota T250 Avensis Verso

Overview

Manufacturers, or importers, issue recalls for defects or faults which have the potential to cause injury. Generally, manufacturers will inform the original buyers if their vehicle is subject to a recall and of the steps required to remedy the defect or fault. Please note that the recalls below (if any) are for Australian-delivered vehicles only. Furthermore, the number of recalls should not be taken as an indication of a model’s reliability or its safety more generally.

Recalls: Toyota T250 Avensis Verso

Toyota T250 Avensis Verso: potential fuel leak

In February 2005, a recall was issued for Toyota T250 Avensis Verso vehicles due to possible leakage from the fuel tank inlet pipe and breather tube caused by corrosion (PRA 2005/7534).

2001-03 Toyota T250 Avensis Verso: Takata airbag recall #1

In April 2013, a recall was issued for Avensis Verso vehicles manufactured between 26 April 2001 and 8 May 2003. In these vehicles, the front passenger airbag inflator may have been assembled with improperly manufactured propellant wafers. In the event of a crash, the inflator may therefore rupture and cause abnormal deployment of the front passenger airbag, increasing the risk of injury to the occupant. The recalled Avensis Verso vehicles were in the VIN range JTE GH**** 00001012 to JTE GH**** 05014381 (PRA 2013/13544).

2003-08 Toyota T250 Avensis Verso: Takata airbag recall #2

In May 2015 and June 2015, recalls were issued for Toyota T250 Avensis Verso vehicles because the inflator propellant wafers within the passenger’s front airbag may be susceptible to moisture intrusion. If this occurred, the inflator assembly may rupture during deployment and metallic fragments could contact the occupant. While the recall was issued in May 2015, it was not expected that replacement parts would be available until early 2016 (PRA 2015/14701). The VINs of the recalled Avensis Verso vehicles were as follows –

  • Avensis Verso ACM20 (manufactured from 23 May 2003 to 1 October 2003):
    • JTE GH23B # 05014757 to JTE GH23B # 05017264;
  • Avensis Verso ACM21 (manufactured from 1 October 2003 to 30 March 2007):
    • JTE GD23B # 0035444 to JTE GD23B # 00069178; and,
    • JTE GD23B # 05073592 to JTE GD23B # 05084237.
  • Avensis Verso ACM21 (manufactured from April 2007 to December 2008):

2009 Toyota Avensis Verso: Takata airbag recall #3

In October 2016, a recall was issued for Toyota Avensis Verso vehicles that were manufactured from 6 January 2009 to 25 December 2009. In these vehicles, the front passenger’s airbag inflator was susceptible to moisture intrusion and this could cause degradation of the inflator propellant. As a result, the airbag inflator assembly could rupture on deployment, dispersing metal fragments throughout the cabin which posed a risk of injury to vehicle occupants. The recalled Toyota Avensis Verso vehicles had VINs in the range JTE GD23B # 00075926 to JTE GD23B # 00077930 (PRA 2016/15709).

2001-03 Toyota Avensis Verso: Takata airbag recall #4

In November 2018, a recall was issued for Toyota Avensis Verso vehicles that were manufactured from 3 October 2001 to 6 May 2003. Over time, propellant wafers inside the front passenger airbag could absorb moisture. In the event of airbag deployment, this could create excessive internal pressure such that the airbag inflator housing may rupture, projecting metal fragments through the airbag and into the cabin. These metal fragments posed a serious risk of injury and fatality. For the VINs of the recalled vehicles, please see PRA 2018/17146.

2001-03 model year Toyota Avensis Verso: Takata airbag recall #5

In September 2019, recall PRA 2019/17788 was issued for 2001-03 model year Toyota Avensis Verso vehicles – this recall was an expansion of recall PRA 2018/17146. The recalled vehicles had Takata front passenger airbags and propellant wafers inside these airbags could absorb moisture over time. In the event of airbag deployment, excessive pressure in the airbag inflator housing could cause it to rupture and metal fragments could be projected through the airbag cushion into the vehicle’s cabin. These metal fragments posed a risk of serious injury and fatality. For the VINs of the recalled vehicles, please see PRA 2019/17788.
