Review: Nissan C11.I Tiida (2006)

Overview

Released in February 2006, the Nissan C11 Series I (C11.I) Tiida was available as a five-door hatchback or sedan. Initially manufactured in Japan, the front-wheel drive C11 Tiida was powered by a 1.8-litre four-cylinder petrol engine – with double overhead cams and variable valve timing – that was mated to either a four-speed automatic or six-speed manual transmission. The range initially consisted of ST, ST-L, Q and Ti variants though the Q and Ti were only available as a hatchback and sedan respectively.

MR18DE engine

The 1.8-litre MR18DE four-cylinder petrol engine had an aluminium block and cylinder head, double overhead camshafts (chain-driven), variable intake timing (Nissan’s ‘continuous valve timing control’ or C-VTC), four valves per cylinder and a compression ratio of 9.9:1.

Dimensions and body

Compared to the N16 Pulsar , the C11 Tiida hatch was 21 mm longer (at 4205 mm), 11 mm narrower (1695 mm), 87 mm taller (1535 mm) and had a 65 mm longer wheelbase (2600 mm). Relative to the hatch, the C11 Tiida sedan was 190 mm longer (at 4395 mm), though its other dimensions were the same.

The Tiida hatchback and sedan had drag coefficients of 0.29 Cd and 0.31 Cd, respectively.

Suspension

The Tiida had MacPherson strut front suspension and H-shaped torsion beam rear suspension (with internal rebound springs and ‘ripple-control’ shock absorbers).

Safety equipment

Initially, standard safety equipment for the Tiida ST included dual front airbags and front seatbelts with pretensioners and load limiters.

The Tiida ST-L, Q and Ti were also equipped with ABS, brake assist, electronic brake force distribution and full-length curtain airbags (i.e. for front and rear occupants).

Brakes

The C11 Tiida had 260 mm by 22 mm vented front brake discs and 203 mm rear drum brakes.

ANCAP crash testing

In ANCAP crash testing , a 2006 Tiida ST hatchback – equipped with dual front airbags – received a four star adult occupant protection rating with a score of 25.5 out of 37. In the offset crash test, protection from serious chest and leg injury was marginal for the driver. In the side impact test, there was a moderate risk of serious chest injury for the driver.

Features: Tiida ST, ST-L, Q and Ti

Standard features for the Tiida ST included 15-inch steel wheels with 185/65 R15 tyres, a four speaker sound system with CD player, air conditioning, remote central locking, power mirrors, a tilt adjustable steering wheel, height adjustable driver’s seat and an immobiliser; the hatchbacks were also fitted with a 60/40 split and folding rear seat.

The Tiida ST-L was further equipped with 15-inch alloy wheels, ‘Tricot’ seat trim, power windows and rear headrests. Beyond this, the Tiida Q and Ti variants featured a six speaker sound system, combination cloth/leather seat trim, leather-wrapped steering wheel, front fog lights, passenger vanity mirror, front map lights and overhead console; the Ti sedan was also fitted with a 60/40 split and folding rear seat, while the Q added a sliding rear seat and rear spoiler.

Review: Nissan C11.III Tiida (2010-12)

Overview

Released in March 2010, the C11 Series III (C11.III) Tiida introduced a simplified line-up, improved safety equipment and extra features. For the former, the C11.III Tiida line-up consisted of ST and Ti variants, available in both five-door hatchback and sedan bodies.

Visually, the C11.III Tiida could be identified by its larger bumpers, revised grille and new tail-lights for the hatchback models. Inside, the C11.III Tiida had a faux-metal finish across the dashboard and updated instrument cluster.

Recalls & faults: Nissan C11 Tiida (2006-12) https://www.australiancar.reviews/recalls-faults-nissan-c11-tiida-2006-12/ Sun, 27 Dec 2020 23:24:32 +0000 http://prod.australiancar.reviews/recalls-faults-nissan-c11-tiida-2006-12/

Recalls: Nissan C11 Tiida

Overview

Manufacturers, or importers, issue recalls for defects or faults which have the potential to cause injury. Generally, manufacturers will inform the original buyers if their vehicle is subject to a recall and of the steps required to remedy the defect or fault. Please note that the recalls below (if any) are for Australian-delivered vehicles only. Furthermore, the number of recalls should not be taken as an indication of a model’s reliability or its safety more generally.

Recalls: Nissan C11 Tiida

  • In December 2008, a recall was issued for Nissan C11 Tiida vehicles due to a potentially poor connection the rear stop lamp socket and its bulb which could prevent it from operating (PRA 2008/10499).
  • In October 2010, a recall was issued for Nissan C11 Tiida vehicles due to potential contamination of the intelligent power distribution module (IPDM) relay, caused by a build-up of silicon oxide (caused by silicon evaporating from the lay diode). This contamination could lead to poor conduction at the relay contacts, potentially causing the engine to stall and failing to restart (PRA 2010/12094). The recalled vehicles were available for sale from March 2004 to June 2006 and included vehicles in the following VIN ranges:
    • JN1BBAC11A0100013 to JN1BBAC11A0103267; and,
    • JN1FBAC11A0000010 to JN1FBAC11A0003883.
  • In May 2016, a recall was issued for Nissan C11 Tiida vehicles that were manufactured from October 2006 to December 2012. The propellant wafers in some of the airbag inflators could absorb moisture over time, leading to overly aggressive combustion in the event of an airbag deployment. In certain conditions, excessive internal pressure could cause the body of the airbag inflator to rupture on deployment. As such, abnormal deployment of the driver’s airbag or the scattering of metal fragments posed a safety hazard to the occupants of the vehicle. The VINs of the recalled Nissan C11 Tiida vehicles were in the range MNT*BAC11A0000011 to MNT*BAC11A0024281 (PRA 2016/15383).
